Much as I love it, our kitchen will never be featured in the Style supplement of any glossy magazine. Nor will our fridge ever slink down any runway in any fashion shoot.
Purely functional, a handy place to store the milk, and a useful display point for shopping lists, reminders, photos and the occasional postcard. Over the years it’s carried its fair share of Star of the Week Awards and other certificates commemorating our children’s achievements.
This week, however, it was my turn to stick something on our fridge:
How lovely to learn that my story ‘How To Make Them Like You’ was ‘Highly Commended’ in the Flash Fiction Competition run by The Abergavenny Focus, Bookish Bookshop and The Word Counts.
All winning stories can be read here. ‘How To Make Them Like You’ can be read here.
My thanks to everyone concerned.
And I’m really looking forward to visiting Bookish, just 5 miles from the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Congratulations! Off to have a read now!

Ohh, I love that — it reminds me of the film Mermaids (Cher, Winona Ryder) — WR played the religious daughter while Mom ate marshmallow kebabs and men. Great flash — well done and *fave*.

Thanks Martha! I remember that film… Some very nice flashes here, I thought. And doesn’t Bookish bookshop look wonderful?
