Getting a poem into The Rialto is one of my poetry highlights, certainly of this year and probably of my poetry life. When I received a letter of acceptance from the editors in February I leapt about my house with happiness and even had a little cry. Why all the fuss? I suppose because ever since I started seriously writing poetry, it’s been one of my aims to be published in The Rialto. It’s notoriously hard to get a poem accepted – the magazine receives about 12,000 poems a year and publishes 180 – and I might have given up if I was turned down again this time (this was the second time I’d submitted to them and they take ages to reply (understandably, considering the number of submissions).
The Rialto pays for every poem. Cash. What a novelty. My £20 will go 
straight back into The Rialto coffers as I will use it to renew my subscription. There’s even going to be a London launch of this issue on June 4th but, sadly, I won’t be able to go. Perhaps you can? I’ve stuck the details onto my fridge.
