It’s taken a few years (more like a decade); a lot of poetry submissions, acceptances and rejections; emails, phone calls, meetings; cartridge ink and printer paper; eyestrain, caffeine and the odd glass of wine, swear word, and grey hair (many of these) – but my debut full poetry collection What Are You After? is now officially published by Nine Arches Press and available to buy from all good bookshops or direct from Nine Arches (free p&p if ordered in June).
This week, Jane Commane at Nine Arches has started to send out pre-orders of my book and it’s been a joyful experience to see copies appearing on social media, sometimes alongside Deborah Alma’s fab collection Dirty Laundry which has also just been published. Here is a collage I’ve made of some of the pictures that have been tweeted, facebooked and instagrammed!
I even made it onto my son’s Snapchat story
and there was this kind tweet from the always generous and supportive Ian McMillan
Plus, this week, a poem from the collection has been recorded by the A Poem a Week podcast and is available to listen to here and poetry film makers Chaucer Cameron and Helen Dewbery have made a film of ‘Poem in which we hear the word ‘drone’ which you can watch here.
I’m nervous about but very much looking forward to my first public reading from What Are You After? on Saturday at Nine Arches Press Tenth Birthday Party Celebration. A few tickets still available.
Thanks to the many readers of this blog who’ve been in touch to send congratulations. You are extremely kind!
Hi Josephine,
The very best wishes for the book. Your publisher tells me it has been dispatched but it may take some time to arrive in the desert! Can’t wait to read it. Mark

The poetry film presentation & your words (drone) are very moving and I have also liked the other pieces I have seen. I had hoped to buy a copy and have it signed in Brum tomorrow but ‘the shingles’ have suddenly decided how I spend the my time at the moment!
But one day soon ….
Have a wonderful day.

Thanks for these kind words, Janet, and I am SO SORRY to hear you’re not well. Shingles is horrible. I’ve had it and I think I delayed my recovery by not resting enough (impossible sometimes, I know). Wishing you well and I hope to see you in Trowbridge or Bradford on Avon or Swindon (or somewhere!) before too long. J x
