Dipping my toe into Substack

This is just to say that I am experimenting with using Substack for a regular blog or newsletter. WordPress is not as easy to use as it used to be which is very offputting. I have no plans to close this site, and I will try hard not to cross-post (I have done that in the past) but instead I’ll aim to post different things in different places. I’d like to write about a wider range of topics than writing – parenting, for interest, Faith, small town living and more about what I’m reading, watching and listening to, and perhaps my Substack newsletter will be the place for that. Then again, I am trying to write a second poetry collection, and find my way back to prose writing, so perhaps none of these things will ever get written about. I’d love to hear from you if you’re also using Substack or if you’re fed up with WordPress!

  1. I’ve stuck with WordPress but agree, it is now harder to use. The way they’ve tried to force the block editor is a particular irritation along with the additional work that has to be done on pictures before they can be used. I’m seeing more people migrate to Substack but haven’t tried it myself.

    1. I’ve more or less got used to blocks – although I use them at the most basic level – but I’m irritated that each post takes me longer than it should because of some technical issue, it seems a different one each time. Substack is not difficult, in my opinion. I will probably keep my site here as well, as I mention, because I have so many posts (there is a way to import them but I’m not sure I can do all of them, all at once, and there might be some tinkering with each one). I used to love WordPress. I might keep this as my website but use Substack as my blog.

  2. I’ve also abandoned WordPress for technical issues about uploading photos. I don’t understand the jargon on how I rectify it. I’ve not heard of Substack. I’ve gone back to Blogger, which has its problems, but is easier to use.

  3. I blog with WP and have just migrated my whole blog to a new WP site. The Happiness Engineers (or some such awful title) were exceedingly helpful, guiding me through what I needed to do, sorting out the technical bits and making the whole process painless. I can recommend contacting them about the issues you’re having. They bent over backwards to help me.
